St Johnstone Player of the Year Winners (2023/24)

Dimitar Mitov won big at the annual St. Johnstone Player of the Year event for season 2023/24

The Bulgarian shot-stopper was presented with 11 awards in total at the Salutation Hotel in Perth on Sunday evening.

Also among the award recipients at the annual event – sponsored by Sidey – were Graham Carey, Luke Robinson, Adama Sidibeh, first team coach Alex Cleland and groundsman Chris Smith.

Mitov, who has performed at a consistently high level this season, said: “I’m proud of how I have performed and getting the recognition from the fans and my team-mates makes me happy.

“The award chosen by the players is important because they see you every single day in training and to win so many awards from the fans is an honour.”

Mitov is fully focused in helping the team pick up as many points as possible in the remaining three Scottish Premiership fixtures.

“When your backs are against the wall, the only way is forward,” he said. “For us, we need to pick ourselves up and have a really good training week leading towards Livingston.

“It’s up to us as players to go out there and put in a performance that is good enough to win the game. We have enough quality to win the game. We are at the stage of the season where wins must come - and they must come quick.”

Mitov made sure to give his thanks to the supporters and added: “The fans have been great. They support us home and away all season. They travel in numbers which is fantastic and they are doing their bit. That is fair play to them.

“Now we need to give them something back. We need to do our bit as players and give them performances to be proud of.”
