Over the past few months Frankie has been a judge at Clearwater Studio’s Battle of the Bands. The contest has seen a huge number of bands taking part - covering many genres with the common denominator being a topless drummer; The final, held on Saturday 28th January, saw 8 bands compete for the winning spot – The Age, Kamihamiha, Law of The Chord, Same Jane, Bar Room Crawl, Hideaway Hotel, Wee Free Men and Regiment 7.
Kamihamiha - Winners of Battle of the Bands
Kamihamiha won on the night with an exciting new mix of dubstep, electro and hip hop. As well as the title, radio coverage and press, Kamihamiha have also won a slot to perform at the Scottish New Music Awards in September.
A busy night- Fans created a lively moshpit
Reflecting on the contest, Frankie stated “I’ve loved the Battle of the Bands and the fun of judging! As the weeks have gone on, I have got to know a lot of the boys from appearing on my Drivetime show and of course, seeing them perform live. It’s really highlighted the musical talent in Perthshire and the diversity that’s out there. Well done to all and lets have some girls involved next year - we can rock too! “

Bar Room Crawl
Their success in bringing Apolyptic Funk to the masses meant we HAD to choose these guys as our band of the month. Describing their sound as "...a fusion of funky slap bass, thorough guitar, malevolent keyboards, driving beats and sliding trombone, with a sinister, hammer-horror-esq under-tone" - Bar Room Crawl are new, different and came second in this year's Battle of the Bands. Well done Boys!

Heartland FM has created a new slot for St Johnstone fans across Perthshire. The new football feature, called All things Saints, is dedicated to following the trials and tribulations of the Perth -based team.
Heartland's Bruce Patterson chats to Jamie Beatson, a lifelong Saints fan and freelance journalist. Bruce and Jamie recap all the action from the weekend before and look forward to the game on Saturday. The starting point for their banter is honest comment, posted by the fans themselves.
Jamie, (25) has made his mark managing the online fanzine, www.weareperth.co.uk. The internet forum hosts discussion the latest St. Johnstone action and has thousands of members wishing to have their say on their team.
Heartland FM Station Manager and Saints supporter, Bruce Patterson is enthusiastic about the significance of Heartland's new football focus. “It's good to bring this kind of feature to air, too many sports reports focus on the West Coast, but during this slot we only discuss our local team, St Johnstone.
Bruce says Heartland FM is keen to bring more sport to the airwaves. "I would like to expand our local sports features and would love to hear from anyone willing to bring us a regular report from other sources, amateur football, golf, swimming whatever the interest is Heartland would love to hear from you.”
All Things Saints goes out every Friday at 10.30am. It's repeated on a Saturday morning at 9.30 during Ross' Rewind.
