Every Wednesday night at 6 p.m (repeated Mondays at 10 p.m), Jason O’Flynn presents 'Essential Classics', taking his audience on an epic journey through centuries and across continents.
What began as 'The Classical Hour', had to get a name change when he expanded his show to two hours. His aim from the start was to make the world of classical music accessible and interesting.
With imaginative playlists and access to some of the most highly rated recordings, Jason’s show shines the spotlight on performers and directors, as well as composers.
A lifetime of exploring all types of recorded music has armed him with refreshingly eclectic taste; he’s as comfortable with Schubert as with the latest offering from Squarepusher.
When it comes to heroes, though, Jason doesn’t waiver.
“There’s only one candidate. Beethoven. I see him as Europe’s first punk – tearing up the rule book long before the Ramones played Manhattan.”
Catriona McKay and Bob Dylan will have to wait another day.
Jason would love to hear from listeners with feedback on the show and if you have any requests or dedications, just drop a line to: studio@heartlandfm.co.uk
