My shows are Heart and Soul along with David Wilkie at 8am on Sundays and I am a member of the team for Sounds Inspirational on Tuesdays at 7pm, repeated the following Sunday at 10pm. I also contribute programmes to the early morning Sunrise series.
I retired at the end of 1993 at the age of 57 – but seem to have been busy ever since. When in work I was a professional electrical engineer specialising in power system operation with Scottish Hydro-Electric. The ethos of ‘keeping the customers’ lights on’ carried over readily into broadcasting, particularly in the early days of the station. I’m married with three married daughters and 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild who help to keep me young.
I joined Heartland FM in February 1992, a few weeks before we went on air, and am one of the original presenters. As I firmly believe in the value of having a spiritual dimension to life and as a practising Christian I’ve remained a co-producer/presenter of Heart and Soul, Heartland FM’s religious spiritual and ethical programme throughout. I am also producer and a presenter of Sounds Inspirational, a programme of inspirational music.
More recently I have become part of the team on Sunrise, the early morning music programme. With a few more recent ones thrown in most of my choice of music is what was being heard on air in the early nineteen fifties - a time when I was more interested in music than my school work!
In the past I’ve been associated with other programmes including Newsround - a weekly summary of local news - and Heartstrings - a programme of the lighter classical music, and was an occasional presenter on a drive time programme. I served for a time as Chairman of the Friends of Heartland FM and on the Joint Management Group.
Join David Wilkie and Howard Simpson every Sunday as they bring a topical mix of music, chat, community news and guest interview, with an ethical and religious slant.
