Heartland FM StudioAbout Us

Heartland FM was established in 1991 and launched as a full-time local radio service for Highland Perthshire on 14 March 1992 transmitting on 97.5 MHz FM from a studio base in Pitlochry, Perthshire to a population of 5,300 people in and around Pitlochry, Aberfeldy and Dunkeld.

Heartland FM is the longest running community owned radio station in the UK.

Based in the ‘heart’ of Scotland in Perthshire, Heartland FM now broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to around 6,500 people across Highland Perthshire on 97.5 FM and also online. In-car 97.5 FM reception is possible over a wider area to include most of Perth.

Heartland FM aims to entertain, educate, inform, and encourage local participation. The service is staffed almost entirely by volunteers and is supported almost wholly by the local community.

Heartland FM has been used as an inspiration and blueprint for the start-up of similar stations in other rural Scottish communities.

Get involved

As well as being a broadcaster, Heartland FM aims to be a community resource, giving new opportunities to those living and working in Perthshire.

We have trained volunteers who have gone on to be professionally employed in the BBC, independent commercial radio and independent production.

With local people actively involved in every aspect of the service, Heartland FM is able to contribute to life at the heart of Scotland. It is a tool for the community, run by the community.
